Pokey LaFarge @ The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing
May 4 @ 8:00 pm

Pokey LaFarge is a musician. He is a storyteller. He is a feeler of feelings. He is a narrator of the messy, unkempt American experience. He sits, he watches, he writes. Everything that’s worth happening happens in his songs. Like the long line of writers and performers he descends from, music isn’t something Pokey does—it’s something he is.

This is why Manic Revelations shines like 10 daggers laying on the kitchen table in his St. Louis home. From that vantage point, in the center of this vast continent, Pokey takes long looks from shore to shore, feeling the direction of social winds, ingesting sights and sounds from all around, observing the news of the day.

And so he was ready for the evening when a sociological tinderbox caught fire. Mere minutes from his front door, night after night, social unrest caused everyone in America to stop and wonder which side they were on. In the face of this upheaval, Pokey took to his studio and began writing. That’s how artists deal with uncertainty: they bleed on paper until the pain subsides. Soon, he found that one song led to the next. He couldn’t put it down. One manic revelation led to another. In the thrall of it all, an album started to appear in front of him.

“The manic revelation is the state where artists create,” says Pokey. “I got to the point in writing these songs where I felt like a house on fire that just kept burning.”

King Lil G @ The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing
May 12 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm
King Lil G @ The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing | Santa Fe | New Mexico | United States

Alex Gonzalez , better known as King Lil G, formerly King G , is an American rapper of Mexican descent from South Los Angeles, Los Angeles.[1] He is best known for his 2014 single “Hopeless Boy”.

Gonzales was born in Inglewood, California, where he was raised alone by his Mexican mother. The pain of not having his father around is one of the primary themes in his music. During his childhood Gonzales became a gang member, a father and dropped out of school. His rough upbringing inspired him to launch the Sucio Movement, which he explains is “a positive movement to empower young people who come from a dirty environment and show that they can still accomplish great things.”

He was influenced musically by the G-funk flavor of 90s West Coast rap about women, weed and palm trees, especially that of California hip-hop staples Snoop Dogg, Too $hort and Dr. Dre, among others, as well as Mexican folk ballads called corridos music and the passion and emotion of one of his all-time favorites, Tupac

The Posies w/ opening performance by Terra Lightfoot @ The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing

Rock ‘n roll has rarely been as smart, soulful or satisfying than it has in the hands of The Posies [website | Amazon.com]. During an on/off career that’s stretched across four decades, the Seattle-rooted outfit, led by musical polymaths Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, have shaped and re-shaped their muse, creating one of the more compelling catalogues in modern pop.

From the very beginning, the band sired a succession of classic LPs—including the now seminal Dear 23 and Frosting on the Beater—that served as joyous rejoinders to a generation mired in grunge. And yet, for much of their history, the band has been playing a game of genre tag semantics, dodging facile and limiting descriptions like “power pop” and “retro pop”—terms which initially greeted their 1988 debut, Failure.

“We started out as teenagers, and we made this lovely, very innocent kind of record that existed in stark contrast to the prevailing winds that were blowing in Seattle at the time,” notes Stringfellow. “Ever since then, people tend to think of us as this very sunny vintage-sounding band. But we really haven’t been that way for a long time.”

Ultimately, the magic of The Posies lies in the special chemistry between Auer and Stringfellow. Like any great partnership, it’s one that’s had its ups and downs, stops and starts, over the years. But those experiences have simply served to strengthen the bonds between them.

“One thing I’ve observed: it doesn’t feel like we’ve been together as long as we have,” notes Auer. “And, some days, it even feels like we’re just getting started. I think that’s a very good sign.”

Whether you’re talking about her as a songwriter, guitarist or vocalist, one thing is indisputable: roots rocker Terra Lightfoot is a ferocious talent. Her songs tap into the raw emotion of hearts supercharged by love, loneliness and temptation. Her playing melds expert finger-picking and distorted, hook-heavy melodies. And her elemental voice commands attention and awe, whether on slow-burning soul ballads or hard-charging rock numbers.

Terra released her self-titled debut album in 2011; its critically acclaimed follow-up, 2015’s Every Time My Mind Runs Wild, marked the artist’s arrival as a striking songwriter and compelling live performer. 2017 brought two new albums: the orchestral collaboration Live in Concert and her third studio album, New Mistakes, the latter nominated for Adult Alternative Album of the Year at the 2018 JUNO Awards.
